The inaugural Mount Afton Challenge was completed on January 9, 2021. The goal was to have a challenging and fun race for runners and ruckers, while most importantly supporting a great cause.
This event was a fundraiser for Bryce Werner and family, who is the nephew of F3 Afton pax Tugboat Willie. Bryce is now 17 and has been battling a rare cancer for over 4 years. Even though Bryce was not able to join us in person, much of his family were there. He was definitely with us in spirit and we are beyond thrilled to announce that $3,250 was received as of the end of this event. These funds will be provided to Bryce's family this week. We are truly humbled by the amazing generosity of our F3 Meca pax and the many others that supported this event, including several local businesses. (Cr8tive, 17th Street Distributing, 9Round Afton, Food Lion, The Wine Room and St James Catholic)
In addition to the amazing fundraising, we want to pass on a huge congratulations to all of the participants. A tremendous amount of hard work was on full display during the Mount Afton Challenge by all the runners and ruckers. During the 2 hours of the event (from 8-10am), around 50 participants completed over 600 laps/miles. As the trips up Mount Afton became increasingly more difficult, the pax showed no quit. Great work everyone! #teambryce

This event could not have happened with the total commitment from the pax of F3 Afton. Thank you all for all the time and talent that helped make the event successful. This all started with Tugboat Willie stepping up and wanting to make a difference. The Mount Afton Challenge was born from his desire to make a difference. A big thank you to Tugboat, Mrs. Tugboat and family, and the Werner's for embracing this event and allowing us into your lives.
Thank you to all the pax from F3 Meca that supported this event from 9 different AO's... Dawghouse, Harrisburg, Mint Hill, Kannon, Concord, The Valley, Skybrook, Rollingstone, and Afton. Also, a big thank you to Opie, Audit, SS Minnow, Hokie Pokie and several 2.0's for all the great pictures and videos. One more special shout out to our race director Hokie Pokie for doing a great job! T-claps to all!
The Wine Room opened early to provide an opportunity for great 2nd F post race. We want to thank them for being a great partner for this event. Last but not least to close things out, we felt a need to add a mention of Major Pain's M and Gamma...
Major Pain's M made the day even more special with her non-stop support all morning. Thank you!
To no one's surprise. Gamma won the award for the first racer that detoured to the bar. #Bryceiswatching
This was the first of we hope to be many future running's of the the Mount Afton Challenge. This event will continue to support great causes and be used as an avenue to do good.... stayed tuned!
