While December is normally a time for carolling in the halls, performing in an assembly in the gym, or wow-ing the audiences at the Student Choreography Show, we all know there isn't a whole lot of normal this year! So, the dancers are bringing the performances to you in your homes! We hope you enjoy all the festive cheer and imagination from us!
All the dancers came together to reimagine the story of the Nutcracker as the beginning of a new tradition at Collingwood!
Combining the various renditions of this classic story, the dancers chose characters from the ballet and envisioned them with a twist!
We look forward to bringing this to the theatre in years to come... enjoy the show!
Dancers from Grade 8 through 12 in their own holiday creations! In the past, throughout December, the Choir, Band and Dance classes take turns carolling in the Commons. Grade 8 and 9 dance students demonstrate dance moves to holiday hits while welcoming Morven students to school. Well, this year, the senior students also decided to jump in and contribute to the holiday cheer! Here are some selections from the holiday pieces - music, choreography and festive costumes all chosen by the students! We hope you enjoy!
As a way to connect with our socially distanced Collingwood family we collected nostalgic photos from students, faculty and staff at Morven. Instead of choreographing with our bodies, we experimented with still images. Even though we all celebrate the holidays in our own way, this song, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" sung by Sam Smith, deeply tugs at the heart strings at this very different moment in time.
Lyrics in this song can connect us with the hope of being back together soon..."Let your heart be light, From now on, Your troubles will be out of sight" and "Here we are as in olden days, Happy golden days of yore, Faithful friends who I dear to us, They gather near to us once more, Through the years, We'll always be together, If the Fates allow"
As artists, dancers are all about connection. We connect with others moving in our proximity and then, of course, with our audience. We can't wait to be in a theatre again with you!
