All with masks and great care taken for distancing... But Home for Christmas...
What a world.
Despite the challenges we know that we are so privileged and are grateful! We wanted to share the simple gift of song for you all to enjoy!
(Concert Choir) Editor Alwyn
Many of the choir students in different choirs are here joining with each other and enjoying raising their voices in song! Despite the challenges we have faced in 2020, there has been ingenuity, courage, and much dedication shown through the past few months. Singing in parking lots (thanks for the great suggestion, Alex!), the bus loop area, the student commons by the Totem, the Theatre and then recording in duets, trios or quartets in the choir room.

Credit due to the Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir for this fun arrangement! See if you can find a few students imbued with the spirit of the season as it emerges through their masks :)
The Intermediate Chamber Choir students rehearsed at 7:30am every Friday morning by the Totem pole, in the Theatre and then recorded in small groups, recording in duets, trios and quartets - masked, distanced and fully sanitized as we learned this beautiful (but dangerous) theme song for the upcoming (still) James Bond flick... No Time To Die. Special thanks to Ada Schwarz Rivero for their production work. As always - Mr. Smith thanks for your 'techspertise'!
The Concert Choir and Strings students worked safely in small groups, recording in duets, trios and quartets - masked, distanced and fully sanitized to give tribute to those people before us who worked so hard and gave their lives for us to enjoy the freedoms we have. Fly Away Home is our tribute. Thanks to Rebecca Davey for production work, Chris McCallum for his recording assistance and Mr. Smith for his 'techspertise'!
Two rehearsals using Google Meet late September.
One rehearsal (socially distancing outdoors)
One recording session later - Voila! Enjoy!
Thank you for your part in supporting the Choir program! We are heading into the summer of 2020 – and before we head into this unknown – I thought that you would WANT to enjoy what the Senior Chamber Choir students were involved with in the last week of school! This was a professionally produced project with many of our fellow ISABC schools and organized by the ISABC (Independent School Association). Though it was very last minute – WOW - what incredible representation from our Collingwood musicians - and what a wonderful memento for the various ensembles!
A HUGE shout out to two of our students chosen for solos by the company that made the video: Luca Fukuyo and Monique Kelly
Thank you also to the CW singers who were chosen for the video: Charlotte Andersen, Zaref Andersen, Rebecca Davey, Luca Fukuyo, Alexander Ge, Monique Kelly, Emma Lee and Chris MacCallum.
What a beautiful send off to the recent Graduates here; Charlotte, Zaref and Chris! Also – what a vibrant example of TEAM. This video clearly shows how music has the ability to reach the heart and soul of what it means to be human, especially during these COVID times. You WILL Be Found.
I wish you safety, kindness, savageness for our times – and mostly, time to enjoy the soon to come beautiful weather. ‘Be kind, be calm and be safe’, as our most famous Dr. Bonnie Henry says!

This 1984 Leonard Cohen classic originally included 80 verses, but this version is based on the SHREK adaptation, and features two Collingwood solos: Justin (gr 11) and Jamie (gr 12)

(Spanish) - Kinley Lange set the words of Matthew 18 to this beautiful a cappella setting. The Spanish text translate to English as; "Where two or three are gathered in My name, there will I be also." Solo at by Mo - Grade 10
Performed by the Intermediate Chamber Choir
Brian Tate wrote the words; "I am you are me...." This innovative original uses a clever text and pop-style music to create an environment of togetherness among members of the choir. Community - that's what it's all about. Each vocal part gets its own statement, and all are sequenced together into a rollicking chorus, all a cappella, all fun!
Performed by the Collingwood 2020 Grad Choir
O Canada, led by our gr 12 graduates in this recording has been the official national anthem of Canada since 1980, although it has served as our anthem since 1939. Calixa Lavallée composed the music in 1880. Our students sing the most recent revised English lyrics at the beginning and end (first written by Robert Stanley Weir in 1908). The middle section lyrics sung in French are from the unchanged original 1880 French lyrics written by the poet and judge Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier.

This is a song by American rock band the Turtles, made famous in February 1967, by the Beatles' in "Penny Lane"
This energetic work combines an Irish folk melody and two Celtic mazurkas with original text, a lament for the exodus of young people from the small communities of Nova Scotia.
"Believer" by Imagine Dragons was released in 2017. Written by Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, Daniel Platzman, and Justin Tranter. Dan Reynolds told People magazine that the song was inspired by his experiences with ankylosing spondylitis in 2015. He said that, "The meaning of the song is really reflecting on specific things in my life that were painful, whether it was anxiety and dealing with crowds, feeling overwhelmed by that or the success of the band, disease, going through depression—anything that was a source of pain in my life. And just rising above that, finding a place of perspective where I could be appreciative of the pain in my life and make it my greatest strength.”
Solo by Zaref (gr 12)
Alice Parker has created a setting of this beautiful American song that is simple, authentic, and warm. SOLO: Charlotte (gr 12)
Tune-Yards Nathaniel Brenner & Merrill Garbus/arr. Kristopher Fulton - Mark Foster: No - I don't think we could have picked a more challenging piece! But it was fun!!! This work combines the different aesthetics of drought politics, dance hall dub, and youthful drive to create something that is at once as ordered as it is chaotic.
