With the feedback from First Review and the Gensler team’s interest in fractals, we pivoted to different visuals and played around with different methods of producing fractals leading up to the Midterm Review.
Eriane tried using Mandelbulber, a 3D fractal production software, and stitching screenshots together in Adobe Premiere, but this process wasn’t exactly what we wanted in terms of visuals and efficiency. Em used Adobe After Effects and various fair use architectural imagery to create these fractal patterns via a kaleidoscopic effect.
We moved forward with Em's method to produce Morphology's progress at the Midterm Review.
Architectural images were modified in color and form through the kaleidoscopic effects and generated these dynamic fractal patterns. Images of multiple Gensler projects were then used as source images. From here, we solidified our project concept and found a middle ground between our original concept and Gensler’s suggestions. We largely worked on pacing, color palette, content, and formatting through evaluating our work at the Viz Lab on campus and on the Media Wall because the visuals can vary a lot depending on which screen the work is shown on, and we needed to make sure that our file is compatible with the Media Wall technology.
The Gensler team gave us positive feedback on the direction of this piece, both in visuals and presentation. The biggest change made from here to the Third Review was the source images, which affected the visual work as a whole.
