Moray Stand Up Paddleboard Club were delighted to be able to offer support to the Surfers against Sewage Big Beach Clean from Summit to Sea this weekend. Club members recognise how privileged they are to have so many beautiful areas in Moray to paddle in and are keen to play their part in ensuring that the environment is cared for.
9 intrepid club members took to their boards on Sunday morning, armed with rubbish sacks, gloves, and litter pickers and returned 2 hours later with 18 sacks full of rubbish. Whilst plastic and glass bottles and food wrappers were the main items collected, the team also recovered polystyrene blocks, a traffic cone, fire extinguisher, gas canister and car tyre.
The club extended thanks to Moray Council for providing the litter pickers for the club to use and arranged for the sacks to get picked up.
The club often use the estuary of the River Lossie for their regular Saturday morning paddling session, when conditions make sea paddling less appealing, and hope to incorporate regular litter pick-ups into these sessions.
