Welcome to the Pod! Join our wait pool, today.
We did not initially set out with intentions of creating a Montessori homeschooling community, ... but that seems to be just what happened.
Our decision to embrace Montessori education and later transition into homeschooling developed from the observation of our children's needs and learning styles. We knew pretty early on that they required a different approach to education than the traditional path we followed growing up. Looking back, I guess it could be said we were "following the child" before we even knew or understood the importance of this Montessori mantra.
During our first year of homeschooling, we joined forces with like-minded families to form a weekly co-op. Witnessing our children's social and emotional growth, along with their desire for more collaborative learning, we set out to establish a small learning pod. Thus, the Montessori Homeschool Pod was born! In the pod, our students can explore topics, build projects, conduct experiments, and nurture their creativity with their peers. The Pod provides a supportive, Montessori environment where our children can interact and grow in their interests at their own pace.
Consider this: our journey alongside our children often mirrors the "road to Emmaus." Like the disciples, we may struggle to fully make connections and understand our children's development. Yet, by observing, reflecting, and remaining open, we can find enlightenment and wisdom — our children will teach it to us. This is what it means to "follow the child."
As a Montessori community, we aim to support one another in embracing moments of contemplation, observation, reflection, and adaptation. These practices cultivate lifelong learning, growth, and resilience for both our children and ourselves. May our "walk on the road to Emmaus" continually remind us that it's the journey itself, not the destination, where joy is found.
“Life is a journey, not a destination.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
“To stimulate life, leaving it free, however, to unfold itself--that is the first duty of the educator.”
― Maria Montessori
Hello and welcome to our homeschool pod experience!
I am a Montessori trained and certified educator with 10 years experience in teaching and guiding children in public, private and homeschool settings.
Prior to becoming a Montessorian, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University. Alongside my engineering studies, I pursued additional coursework in Technical Writing and Presentations. Following a decade in design and process engineering roles, I made a career transition into teaching. This shift allowed me to engage more actively in my children's education and community involvement.
After obtaining my state teaching certificate in Elementary Education, I received Diplomas in both Lower and Upper Montessori Elementary Education, for ages 6-12. Additionally, I underwent training in Primary (Early Childhood) Montessori Education, focusing on ages 3-6.
Alongside teaching in Montessori settings, I greatly enjoy coaching baton twirling to ages 5-14 with students participating in parade and competition seasons. Additionally, I am blessed to have the opportunity to teach catechism to church youth, having served in both volunteer and Director of Religious Education capacities. More recently, I am studying and working to deepen my understanding of Deaf Culture and building my fluency in American Sign Language.
My husband and I have four children who have been guided and supported using the Montessori philosophy. Our three eldest children participated in Montessori programs from the ages of five to 14. Our youngest child began their Montessori journey at the age of three and continues now to explore learning within our Montessori Homeschool Pod environment.
