Staff

The Monroe High School Bands are under the direction of Joseph Swinkey, Director of Bands. Mr. Swinkey conducts the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and is the Director of the Trojan Marching Band. He has taught courses in music theory, a cappella choir, and co-teaches the 6th grade beginning band at Monroe Middle School. 

Prior to coming to Monroe Public Schools, Mr. Swinkey earned his Bachelor's of Music Education from the Michigan State University College of Music, where he played trumpet in the MSU Concert Band, The Spartan Marching Band, and the Spartan Brass. His experiences include competitive collegiate a cappella, chamber choir, brass ensemble, and numerous other vocal and brass-related teaching and playing positions. His professional affiliations include the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Director. National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Director's Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
