This process does not count for official attendance. Students must complete tasks to be counted present according to official guidance and current policy. This process gives us an additional data point that will likely become important.
On a related but separate note, the only way that we can see that students watched a recorded Zoom session is if teachers create the task for students to complete in Canvas. Students must complete the task so that the data point is captured. The guidance sent out Friday provides directions for teacher on this process.
Knowing which students are attending live learning sessions is an important data point when determining the various factors leading to success and engagement in distance learning. The ability to track students attending synchronous sessions may highlight areas of inequity that may need to be addressed.
