Short History

Where it all started The Old Lounge Café, Monkton St.

in the begining

The Lounge Café started in 2018 when the owner of the relic junk shop on the corner of Simeon Street and Monkton Street persuaded Jenna to take over the shop and she along with her mother Dawn built the business up and ran it mainly as a community Café so successfully that he wanted it back and gave 3 months notice.

They desperately looked for new premises and eventually found the premises of Island Printers 11 East Street just around the corner that was derelict having been closed for for the past 2 years and been turned down by planning to be turned into 2 new houses.

They had at this point 8 wks. in which to turn this building into a functional café and with the help of friends and family archived their goal.

with the loyal support of their original customers they are building this new site into a very successful Arts, Café and Music Events Centre now known as Monkton Arts.

Jenna and Dawns journey to create a community hub around what is now affectionally known as Monkton village has gone from strength to strength.

Please see their Journey below in pictures.
