The Sufi community pauses to celebrate the Prophet’s birthday, Mawlid, whenever the crescent of Rabi’ al-Awwal appears each year. This celebration is an expression of their love for the chosen one, our master Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
Preparations begin two weeks earlier, with each order setting up its own special gathering place, or tent. These tents warmly welcome guests, including children, women, and elderly sheikhs. The gatherings feature remembrance (dhikr), religious chanting (madih), and lectures on Islamic teachings.
Various Sufi orders, such as the Tijaniyyah and Shadhiliyyah, each have their own unique way of celebrating Mawlid.
Women play no lesser role than men in these celebrations. They also come to the gathering space to express their love for the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
