Never have a home anymore

Living far from home as an expatriate is often a journey filled with emotional turmoil and difficult challenges, especially in the beginning.

Many leave their homeland filled with dreams and ambitions, to shockingly face a harsh reality, From the pressure of adapting to a new environment and finding a suitable job to the longing for family and friends.

I documented my journey and the emotions that overwhelmed me even before leaving my homeland (Sudan) in December 2023. Upon my departure, I started to realize the magnitude of the struggles faced by expatriates.

Through this project, I aim to reflect the silent battles of those striving to build a life far from home, shedding light on the resilience needed to overcome alienation, isolation and the weight caused by unmet expectations. It offers a glimpse into the complexities of the experience of expatriation, especially for those forced to leave due to various reasons, especially displacement caused by conflicts.
