Introduction: This project was created to support teachers who were new to teaching Newcomer students.
Problem: Many teachers agreed to teach Newcomer students with little knowledge of the population and techniques needed to provide a successful learning experience for their students.
My role: In collaboration with other subject matter experts, I developed this workshop to help provide teachers with necessary information to create a successful learning environment for their students.
Research: I began by surveying teachers to determine their needs. The goal of the survey was to determine prior knowledge and identify areas that teachers needed additional support in. Being an SME myself, I also gathered relevant data from my experiences in coaching Newcomer teachers.
Process: After determining gaps in teacher understanding, I created this interactive orientation. The training went through multiple rounds of revision from other SME's. This training was a hybrid model, with the majority of individuals participating in person. I created this training using Google Slides. This was the best way for teachers to access the material, and is easily synched in Google Drive and shared on Zoom or Google Meet.
