Begin your time this morning reading Psalm 98

Psalm 98

A psalm.

1 Sing to the Lord a new song,

for he has done marvelous things;

his right hand and his holy arm

have worked salvation for him.

2 The Lord has made his salvation known

and revealed his righteousness to the nations.

3 He has remembered his love

and his faithfulness to Israel;

all the ends of the earth have seen

the salvation of our God.

4 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,

burst into jubilant song with music;

5 make music to the Lord with the harp,

with the harp and the sound of singing,

6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—

shout for joy before the Lord, the King.

7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,

the world, and all who live in it.

8 Let the rivers clap their hands,

let the mountains sing together for joy;

9 let them sing before the Lord,

for he comes to judge the earth.

He will judge the world in righteousness

and the peoples with equity.

We’re called on by the Psalmist to praise and worship the Lord. He has "worked salvation" for him - for his people.

We're also called to praise the Lord because he’s coming to judge (V.9) The idea of the Lord's judgement, is something we perhaps wouldn’t normally associate with praise.

But it means the Lord will bring equity and he'll put things right. It means the end of the world that’s unfair. It means an end to the world that is hostile to God and his people. That surely makes the Lord worthy of our praise.

Confession and Assurance

We are God’s people. God has saved us and drawn us to himself. Yet as Scripture reminds us, we still sin. We still turn away from God's Word.

As John writes: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:8)

Confession of sin both privately and corporately, is a great way to undeceive ourselves. It is so important for drawing near to God and enjoying him.

Please use this prayer of confession - either silently or "out loud" with those you're meeting with.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father,

we confess that we have gone our own way,

We have not loved you as we ought,

We have not loved our neighbour as ourselves.

We have sinned against you and others in our thoughts, in our words and deeds

We have left undone the good that you want us to do.

We deserve your condemnation.

Father, forgive us.

Help us to love you and our neighbour, and to live for your honour and glory;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hear the promise of Scripture

If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.(1 John 1:9)

Thanks be to God for his grace and his mercy through Jesus Christ.

Prayer of thanks and intercession

Zac will pray in thanks for God's goodness and provision, and also for a range of needs.

Father in heaven, our Lord and our God,

You are so high above us.

You are so pure, holy, big, and strong.

You are so different from us.

Yet you never turn your holy and loving face away from us!

All that You do is for the benefit of Your people, so that they can share in your glory.

Who are we that You, such a being, would love a people like us? A world like us?

You created us, and you have every right to do with us whatever you please…

You are just, and we aren’t. Yet you have had mercy on us.

You are holy, and we aren’t, yet you have made a way for us to be with You forevermore.

We praise You Father, we love You, and we need You.

Lord you’ve had mercy on us, and we boldy ask that you would have mercy on those in this world who are preoccupied with anything and everything except you and your Son Jesus Christ – who is the picture and exact representation of your love for the lost.

Lord why aren’t more people believing the gospel?

Why aren’t more people coming to Jesus?

Father do what you must do in us as Christians in the world, to make Jesus shine through all our mess Lord.

We pray for the church in Australia. Lord we want to become people who know how to function in a dysfunctional world.

Teach us how to love people better, teach us how to love each other better, show us your heart for the lost in our country.

We pray for our leaders, that you would give them godly fear, that Australia might be lead by people who are being lead by your Spirit and by your word.

We pray for Christians working in the city, working in schools, universities, working in all sorts of industry and trade. Lord give them what they need to live faithfully in our society.

We pray for our churches Lord.

We pray for patience, endurance, wisdom and integrity as we trek on through the good and the bad.

We pray for the work you’re doing in the Bay area here, we pray for Wynnum Pressie church, we ask that you would sustain our brothers and sisters over there in Christ, that You would give them encouragement and peace, and equip them to keep going on in the ministry of Christ in that place.

We pray the same for us Lord, that you would energise us and equip us to apply Your word in our day to day lives so that we would see people in our community set free from the power of the enemy and of the lusts of this fallen world, that they would come to Christ and see his Kingdom growing in victory and splendour.

Father help us to be faithful witnesses of the glory and splendour of Jesus in how we approach difficulties in our lives, how we deal with controversy and strife, how we have a hope that cant fail, despite the hopelessness around us.

Lord we have plenty of needs to bring before you this week:

We pray for Nick Cao and his family as they spend time with Nicks grandmother who is receiving palliative care and will like pass away soon. Father we ask that you give Nick the grace and strength he needs to minister to her, and his family in this time. We ask that you minister to him as he prepares for all this.

We also pray for Margaret Thomson who needs a cataract operation soon. We pray for that to happen soon!  We pray for her peace and trust in you.

Lord we pray for various others amongst us who are struggling with their health, you know their needs, their struggles.

Help us to be trusting you with our daily needs knowing that you care for us.

Father we pray for kids and youth at MLPC – help us to think through how we minister to our kids as a church, help us parents to think about how we minister to our kids, and how they can grow up as faithful followers of Jesus in a challenging world. We want our kids to love You, to love the church, to love the lost.

Father we want to thank You for how you have blessed us, how you have helped us to be generous with our finances, in giving, in the collection of money for ministry in this church and in our community. Father we ask that you continue to resource us as we hold out the good news of the gospel to one another and to our community.

Father there is so much more.

We ask you for all this and more, in the same way Jesus did when he taught us to pray in the gospel:

Saying,

“Our father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever amen.”

Bible Reading

Revelation 19

19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:

“Hallelujah!

Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,

2 for true and just are his judgments.

He has condemned the great prostitute

who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.

He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

3 And again they shouted:

“Hallelujah!

The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”

4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

“Amen, Hallelujah!”

5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

“Praise our God,

all you his servants,

you who fear him,

both great and small!”

6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

“Hallelujah!

For our Lord God Almighty reigns.

7 Let us rejoice and be glad

and give him glory!

For the wedding of the Lamb has come,

and his bride has made herself ready.

8 Fine linen, bright and clean,

was given her to wear.”

(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)

9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”

11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[a] He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

king of kings and lord of lords.

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.”

19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21 The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.
