The Math clubs at MLK are parent coordinated & coached.
Math club for 3rd graders and Math Olympiad for 4th & 5th graders is a fun and competitive activity that students can participate in. It is a great way for students to develop intuitive thinking skills and learn new types of math. Students will not only learn new material, but will apply their previous knowledge from school to fun and challenging problems. Besides the academic benefits, math club is also a great way to meet new people and develop teamwork skills.
The Math Clubs meet once a week for an hour from October to May. Be on the look out for more information on how to join.

The Science Club at MLK is parent coordinated & coached.
Inspired by the words of Rosalind Franklin, “Science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated”, a MLK Alumni, Anagha founded the MLK Science Club which aims to promote an interest in science. Small groups of students will work with adult mentors from October through May. Participants will collaborate with their teammates on a weekly basis for an hour virtually or in person. The club will delve into a variety of age appropriate topics in life science, physical science, and earth science. Club members will also engage in learning more about famous scientists and different careers available in the field of science, investigate how some home appliances and simple machines work, and take on some STEM challenges. Digital science magazines, science websites, Kahoot quizzes, and slide presentations will supplement the learning process. However, the star of the show is the hands-on science experiments. Every other meeting, the students will perform an experiment using household materials that correspond with the unit they are learning. During the meeting, each participant will conduct the experiments in the comfort of their own home, discuss the outcome, and share results. The club members will also participate in the year end National Science League contest. With the yearlong exposure to different topics, the students will be well prepared and feel confident to take the test.
With the objective to bridge in-school and out-of-school learning in science by nurturing interest, keeping it simple, making it fun, and involving passionate mentors the Club plans to continue for many years to come.
