For my exhibition my main focus is the use of color, and how because of the use of color it draws the viewer’s attention. I enjoyed these artworks because I was able to incorporate my own interest and beliefs which is important in the development of my artwork and in general when building character. I also enjoyed seeing how far my work has come from the beginning.

In the beginning of the first year I wasn’t really focused on any particular medium, it was more of my experiment stage and I grew to like a lot of new things that I’ve never tried before. The one medium that was personally challenging was printmaking. With that medium I learned that patience is key and steady hands are also necessary as well.

Now that we are nearing the end of Visual arts I’ve learned plenty of things that have been very beneficial to me. I feel as an artist my work has improved drastically. Now that I put my time and effort into every single piece, it's amazing to see what accomplishing your work and not getting side tracked does. My favorite medium has to be acrylic paint on canvas. I know it's basic but it has to be one of the mediums that I feel comfortable doing as opposed to other mediums.

Flight, 12X12 cm, watercolor on paper

Flight was intentionally not my initial thought. When deciding which shoe I should draw, Air jordans were surprisingly the one I found easy to recreate. I did in fact redraw this over 30 times and I will argue that the pencil sketch turned out to be better opposed to it with watercolor but the purple stood out the most which I liked. I watched multiple youtube videos on how to draw a shoe.

Black Over Blue, 6 x 6 cm printmaking on cardstock paper

Black over blue sends a message of BLM (Black lives matter) movement. THroughout time poc have been put through a lot and some of these things aren’t addressed in schools and I personally think it should be. This piece consists of a blue on a white background, the process of creating this was very difficult but youtube videos were very useful.

Rick&Rick, acrylic paint on canvas, 45.72 x 60.96 cm

Just like my other pieces once again I wanted to focus on the use of color. Due to my new obsession with Rick & Morty I decided to make a piece reflecting the show. First I started with a light sketch just to get an idea of what I wanted to do then I started painting. At first I struggled with finding the right tones and backgrounds to use to paint but I started to get in the hang of it and I think this is probably my best piece yet. I did a parallel to my other piece with the pink background but I believe it all fits well together.

Sunset, 12 x 12 cm, acrylic paint on canvas

“Sunset” is a literal sunset. I wasn’t sure about this one because when sketching it out, it looked horrible but once I started painting it, it turned out better. It was my sister’s idea to add lighter and darker strips to make it pop out more. My inspo came from pinterest because I had no idea what I wanted to create.

Different Views, 12x12cm, printmaking on canvas

For this piece I experimented with printmaking on one black piece of paper and use different colors in order to create different views. Although the background is dark and different opposed to my other pieces this still came out really well and it was fun to do.

Spooky Luv, acrylic paint on canvas, paint pen, 45.72 x 60.96 cm

For this piece, I got my inspo from Pinterest and decided to recreate it. I originally was going to upload my Rick and Morty piece but unfortunately my dog had an altercation with that canvas so I decided to use this piece instead. I feel like acrylic paint on canvas is easier for me than other mediums but I want to continue opening myself up to other mediums. Going back to my art piece I think the colors pop more when I take pictures with the flash on. Some spots are spotty because I ran out of paint but I felt pretty good with how this came out. Going over with paint pens really helped this look better in my opinion. There is no emotional tie to this piece compared to my last one, just something I felt looked cool.

Where The Sun Sets, 45.72 x 60.96cm, acrylic paint on canvas

This was one of my first pieces when I was just starting to get in the hang of art. I decided to do the medium of acrylic paint on canvas. For it being my first large piece I felt it came out pretty well. I'm not the biggest fan of it but overall it was nice.
