Description:
There They Lay is a game based off a desktop window; in this window the game will be played using MS Paint. There They Lay is a single player puzzle game, where you must figure out puzzles that get in your way. A key aspect of this game is that you don’t control the player, you control how the player will move by setting up directional paths using different types of tools.
This project focused on onboarding, introducing players to new mechanics after each level and applying these to solve the levels. This project uses a drawing mechanic with tools that changes the way player moves. This game is set on an old Windows desktop, taking on the style of the desktop. With the drawing mechanic, a simple, MS Paint-esque art style was used for the assets.
Assets
I worked on characters and animations, as well as assets for prop items and obstacles.
I created the assets in MS Paint to give it the style of the game being played on MS Paint. I refined the assets created in Photoshop and created spritesheets for the animations. The character was based on a concept character that was quickly made by a teammate in MS Paint, which I used to reimagine it for the game, keeping the same essence and design as the original concept.
