We have a new website!
Volunteers from colleges and the community are a critical ingredient to the success of Minnesota Goes to College events. Postsecondary volunteers, depending on expertise and availability can assist sites at the following events:
College Knowledge Month: During the month of October, high schools host college exploration activities and dedicate time and space for seniors to complete college applications.
Financial Aid/FAFSA Completion Events: These events help students and families learn about and apply for financial aid. Many events assist families with completing the FAFSA or MN Dream Act applications and are hosted by high schools, postsecondary institutions and community organizations. Typically, financial aid events begin in the month of October and continue throughout the year.
Sites requesting volunteers are indicated on the maps below. Please note that College Knowledge Month sites are added to these maps on an ongoing basis from May 1 through August 15. FAFSA sites are added between May 1 and December 15. Many sites still need assistance with their events after October! In addition, postsecondary volunteers can reach out to any local high schools who that they have worked with in the past to see if they need assistance.
Site coordinators from specific sites have requested access to postsecondary volunteers who register through Minnesota Goes to College. Volunteer needs vary by high school or event, but could include:
Assisting students and/or families with college application or FAFSA completion.
Presenting to student or parent groups about a topic within your area of expertise (financial aid, diversity, college preparation, essay writing, etc.).
Sharing information about the college application process or personal stories about your college journey.
When completing the registration form, please select the region(s) in which you are willing to travel. Volunteers have the option to identify a specific site as well. Please specify your area of expertise and level(s) of assistance you can provide. Volunteer placement is not guaranteed. Site coordinators should contact volunteers directly to confirm and arrange specifics for their event(s).
