Beat Willy Get All Sorts of Funky (1977)

Record Review: Beat Willy Get All Sorts of Funky

Mingo County, WV. The Beaterman family's second release of original musical compositions, Beat Willy Get All Sorts of Funky truly captures the spirit and personality of the people of Mingo County, with an acoustic-disco flair.

While many in the day would refer to William J. Beaterman's dabblings in music as slightly demonic or a sign of lacking intestinal fortitude, Beaterman continued composing ditties and tunes for his nephews to plagiarize and perform. Because of his contributions to the local economy of Mingo County, few fellow Mingogians voiced dissenting views upon Beaterman's artistic leanings. Said Clayten "Earl" Smithens, "what a grown man does alone in his own bedroom should not lead to disrespect or encarceration. He can keep writing songs if that's what he want."

What Beaterman's nephews, Laertes Eustatius Beaterman and Ebenezer Allistair Beaterman III lack in musical ability, they make up in what can only be described as "pure Mingo." Sady, however, due to lagging record sales, K-Tel records has dropped Beat Willy as their featured acoustic act and are auditioning the Kentucky Beaterman Warm Whiskey Jug Band and Circus Road Show for future releases.
