PPE is a universally understood and accepted term for "Personal Protective Equipment". Every miner is responsible for using and maintaining their own equipment. This equipment is integral in conducting safe work in and around a mine site. Some mine companies provide their employees with PPE, while others require employees to buy their own PPE. MSHA can write citations for employees failing to use/maintain their PPE.
Types of PPE include:
Steel-toed or metatarsal boots
Approved hardhat
Safety glasses
Self-contained respirator
Cap lamp
Work gloves
Safety vests
Fall protection
