A lost-time incidentlis any incident or event that prevents an employee from immediately returning to work. These incidents differ from first-aid incidents, which may require basic medical attention, but do not result in the employee missing any work.
88% of lost-time incidents have been found to occur from unsafe acts, while only 12% tend to be caused by unsafe workplaces/ conditions.
Lost-time incidents can be broken into several categories based on the degree of severity:
Fatal injuries are those resulting in death.
NFDL (Non Fatal Days Lost) injuries are non-fatal occurrences resulting in days away from work, statutory days charged or days of restricted work activity
NDL (No Days Lost) injuries are occurrences with no lost days, i.e., non-fatal injuries resulting only in temporary loss of consciousness, or medical treatment other than first aid
