TYPE, PATTERNS AND MATERIAL PHENOMENOLOGIES

Intent:

The design started with the idea of hiding the structure within the landscape of the site, by the landscape itself, so that the houses become a part of it, almost as if they are etched into the topography of the site.

This idea emerged from the pattern study done in the village of Tapola in Mahabaleshwar.

Pattern Drawings:

Studying the homesteads in Mahabaleshwar, we identified some patterns that shaped those houses and the living. We studied these patterns, took reference from them and applied the logic behind them while designing the homestays.
