Joint Mobilization

Joint mobilisation procedure is an uncommon procedure done for recalcitrant adhesive capsulitis. This procedure is done after the patient fails to show any sign of improvment with conservative treatment for at-least 6 weeks.

The standard modality of treatment for Adhesive capsulitis or frozen shoulder is gradual pain free mobilisation and stretching. This can be augmented with Intra-articular hydro-dilation/hydro-distension if patient has slow improvement. In cases where the forementioned treatment fails to give results, joint manipulation under General anaesthesia followed by a to 2 to 10 'o' clock capsulotomy may be recommended.

The post procedural pain is a problem for some patients. It is always advisabe to control metabolic parameters before councelling the patient for this procedure. The patients are mobilised on 1st post operative day with range of motion exercises followed by strength training after 4-6 weeks.
