What is Media and Information Literacy?

In this session how does MIL contribute to a democracy we focus on key MIL competencies that contribute to a democracy. Access to information is critical in a democracy, to contribute meaningfully to public dialogue, hold politicians accountable, demand transparency from the Government, and to apply data and information to make informed decisions. 

In this session you will;

• Learn about democracy and core democratic principles. 

• Understand how access to information supports and promotes transparency and accountability.

• Apply strategies to contribute to democratic engagement on social media.

This session aims to encourage youth to speak up and demand for freedom of expression  by participating in public discourse. Your students will learn the importance of youth participation and how to defend freedom of expression for the realisation of democracy.

In this session, you will:

• Learn why freedom of expression is important 

• Get to know how to demand for their rights

• List how to defend free speech on social media

In this session you will understand what information is, and what quality information is. You will be able to evaluate quality information and conduct online research to access free quality education. 

At the end of the session you will be able to:
