Measure what matters

A couple of years ago, while visiting a friend in Palo Alto, Silicon Valley, he recommended to read the John Doerr’s book Measure what matters to learn how teams are build in many high-performance companies in the region. It was a good tip - I would highly recommend reading it! In the book, Doerr introduces a simple system to create a high-performance workplace culture. The approach has been used for example and Intel, Google (all the way from the start), Youtube and Bono’s One campaign and thus has a very impressive track record. The basic idea of the method is to set clear, concise, transparent and quantitative objectives and key results throughout the organization (e.g. management, teams, individuals). This sort of structure allows focus, stretch, align, connect and monitor the functioning of the organization. Apparently many studies have shown that such approach does clearly increase productivity even though the implementation takes some resources.
