April 4 at North Allegheny
Students from Pitt’s Data Science program will introduce the idea of using big data (publicly available data) to try and solve problems in people’s lives. They start by explaining what data science is, then students will move into small groups and look at a data set. The Pitt students help them learn how to analyze using Mini Tab or Excel, so no statistics knowledge is needed. Then, they help the students identify a problem that they could solve using that data set. Finally, the students write a research question and analyze the data set as a team to answer their question. Last year, they came with 5-6 topics, and students were put into groups and jumped into a topic. At the end of the day, the Pitt students shared what research they had done in their time at Pitt and what career they were going into with their data science skills.
Sign Up in the Robotics or Maker Studio and see Dr. Survinski with any questions!
