Learning Opportunity Overview
The Educational Technology program at our university faces a challenge; prospective students and employers often lack a clear understanding of the field. Common questions include, “What does an Educational Technologist do?” “What career opportunities are available with this degree?” and “What is the earning potential?” This confusion can impact student enrollment and job placement for graduates. To address this issue, we will develop an engaging multimedia solution designed to clarify the scope of Educational Technology, highlight career paths, and showcase potential earnings, thereby bridging the gap in understanding and enhancing both recruitment and employment outcomes.
Gap between reality and the ideal
In reality, many prospective students don’t have a clear idea of what Educational Technologists do, what kinds of jobs they can get with this degree or their earning potential. This uncertainty can make them hesitant to apply. Potential employers often don’t know what skills Educational Technology graduates bring. This lack of awareness can lead to graduates not being fully valued or recognized for their abilities, which could limit job opportunities.
In ideal, prospective students should clearly understand what they’ll be doing as Educational Technologists, the available career paths, and the potential salary. This knowledge should help them feel confident in enrolling in the program. Potential employers should know Educational Technologists' skills and expertise to better understand how these graduates can benefit their organizations. This could lead to more job opportunities for graduates.
Goals addressed by this project:
Increase Awareness and Interest: A video highlighting Educational Technologists' real-world projects and success stories and showing the impact of Education technologists in various industries. This will help potential students and employers see the field's value and spark interest in what Educational Technologists do.
Enhance Employer Understanding: Showing employers the skills and capabilities of Educational Technology graduates through videos demonstrating how they can solve real-world problems and contribute to an organization can enhance understanding. This can lead to more job openings and better career opportunities for graduates.
Boost Program Reputation: Establish the program as a leader in the field by highlighting its strong foundation in learning theory and psychology, rigorous standards, and historical roots, which will attract both high-quality students and employers.
