Hello I am Joanna Choi. I love to write because it gives me ideas of stuff to do when I am bored. My favorite color is teal. Whenever I finish writing one thing I want to start another one because writing gives me interest. I like when people ask me questions because I can fix my mistakes with questions. Writing is fun. Maybe you should try someday? My favorite type of thing to write is fiction because then I can tell about magic and other not real things. Other than fiction I like to write nonfiction. I write about it because I can tell you facts. If you never wrote a story you should try. Just use your imagination to think of something!
My Small, Little Rachel
By Joanna Choi
You sit there kneeling on the couch.
Your dark brown hair shining in the sunlight.
Your feet always jumping up and down, walking around the house looking for something to do.
You are as playful as a dolphin.
I wish you were in the same grade as me, so I could teach you things.
I love when you smell like hot dogs.
Respectful, rejoiceful, relaxed.
My little sister, Rachel.

Good Witches, Bad Witches
By Joanna Choi
Once upon a time, on a house on a hill by a human village, lived a family of witches. They were all witches, but all very different. The mom, Veronica, was evil. She wore a black, sharp hat and black gown with red fingernails. Her broomstick had a peacock at the end. The mom was evil to humans because she put big hexes on all humans she saw. The sister, Sophie, was evil. She had a blue gown, red sharp hat, black fingernails, and an owl on her broomstick. Sophie put hexes on every kid she saw. The youngest kid, Rosalina, was nice. She didn’t wear a hat like mean witches. She had white fingernails with a pretty, pink dress. She didn’t have a broomstick, but a hot air balloon ride she could steer. Rosalina was nice to everyone she saw because she had human friends.
Sophie always said, “Be evil! Your mom and I are evil. We learn hexes. It’s fun.”
But, Rosalina was always nice and always will be. If her family knew about her friends, they would put hexes on them. That would not be good.
Rosalina had been struggling to keep her secret, but knew, one day, she would have to tell her family.
One Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm, she was playing with her friends. Sophie was flying about trying to hex children when she saw her sister playing with an actual human. Surprised, Sophie raced home to tell her mom what she had seen.
Veronica got angry and got on her broomstick to fly to the village. She swooped down and pulled Rosalina back to the house. She scolded her, “You’re not allowed to play with humans. You can’t go anywhere near the village until you can keep the promise of not playing with humans.”
The next day at noon, she heard a knock at the door. Veronica went to answer it with her wand in her hand in case it was a human. When she opened the door, there was a child.
Rosalina overheard the child, her friend named Lexi, say, “Have you seen Rosalina? She was supposed to play with me today.”
Knowing it was a human from the village and a friend of Rosalina, Veronica put a special hex on Lexi that made her float away. Lexi began to fly away.
Rosalina panicked and, “Mom! You can’t do that. She’s my friend” burst out of her mouth.
But it was too late, Lexi had already reached the first cloud. Then Veronica looked at Rosalina’s face and changed her mind, stopping the hex. Lexi came tumbling out of the sky because of gravity. So, Veronica quickly made a carpet to help her float gently to the ground. After that, Rosalina’s mom apologized to Lexi and told Sophie to be a nice witch from now on.
“Mom!” said Rosalina. “How did you change?”
“I just wanted to make you happy,” said Veronica.
The whole family was nice forever and they started to make friends with the humans. Rosalina was allowed to play with her human friends again.
