Nestled in the countryside of Wendell lies Corinth Holders High School. With almost 2,200 students, we are the largest High School in the Johnston County Public School system. The Pirate Pride at CHHS runs deep throughout the community as we work first and foremost to build relationships between the staff, students, community and administration.
It has been an honor to serve as a resident at CHHS during the 2021-22 school year. My role started with supervision of the auditorium, assisting with ninth grade discipline, bus discipline and implementing MTSS. After the winter break, we had an administrator leave our school, so I took on his role of eleventh grade discipline, FlexTime Manager and COVID contact in addition to the other responsibilities. As a member of the School Improvement Team, I led many of the Data Based Problem Solving Team meetings, which included MTSS discussions and exiting students from the program. Like the other five administrators at this school, I joined the rotation for athletic duties and weekly walk throughs.
I have come to truly enjoy the High School arena. Helping students find their career path and encouraging them to keep pushing towards their goals after school is a passion of mine that I hope to continue when I am officially in the Administrator's seat.
Bus duty was quite challenging this year. With a severe driver shortage due to the COVID years, several buses had to run double routes. This created late arrivals for students in the morning, and students staying after school for up to three hours waiting for a bus to return to do a second route. CHHS has 27 buses total that we share with two different elementary and two middle schools. Staggered start times allow for the buses to rotate between the schools. I managed the Remind system as well to communicate late buses.
With a school as large as CHHS, there are many opportunities for duty stations. All administrators at the school are assigned to before and after school areas, transition stations, lunch areas and athletic duty coverages. Coming from an elementary background, athletic duties were one of the the highlights of my internship as I got to see many sports, such as Lacrosse, that I had never seen before. It became a mission to learn the rules of the games and try to follow scoring systems and fouls.
