Blue Jays Head To Seattle After Second Straight Loss In The ALCS
October 13, 2025
Heading into game one of the American League Championship Series, the Toronto Blue Jays had so much momentum, especially considering their dominant performance against the New York Yankees in the American League Divisional Series. Hopes were high in Toronto after great performances from many players, like first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., outfielder Nathan Lukes, and pitchers Kevin Gausman and Trey Yesavage.
After a commanding win against the Yankees in the Divisional Series, Toronto is one step closer to the World Series.
However, in game one, the Blue Jays suffered a tough loss, with a notable performance from Seattle's second baseman Jorge Polanco, who racked up two RBI's to secure the win for the Mariners. This creates a must-win situation for the Blue Jays in game two, as they would be heading to Seattle for the next three games in this Championship Series. Getting a win at home would be of great help to Toronto, as a loss could set them up for elimination in this best-of-seven series, due to the immense difficulty of having to win three consecutive games without a home-field advantage.
The start of this game was rough, as in the top of the first inning, outfielder Julio Rodríguez hit a three-run shot to left field, giving Seattle an early 3-0 lead. However, the Blue Jays did start to make a comeback in the bottom of the inning, as a single by Nathan Lukes allowed George Springer to score a run, due to a throwing error by Seattle's first baseman Josh Naylor. Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk continued this momentum, hitting a single to send Nathan Lukes home, scoring another run. Toronto was able to tie this game in the second inning, as Nathan Lukes hit another single, causing infielder Ernie Clement to score.
By the end of the second inning, the Jays were streaking, scoring three consecutive runs to even the game. However, the downfall of the Blue Jays started at the top of the fifth inning, as Jorge Polanco hit a devastating home run to put the Mariners up by three. This game got worse for Toronto as Seattle scored four more runs, winning the game 10-3. The Mariners now have an insane amount of momentum as they head back to Seattle, leading the series by two. This loss leaves fans hoping that there is some fight left in the Blue Jays. They now have to win at least two of their next three games in Seattle, in hopes of bringing the series back to Toronto, to secure a spot in the World Series.
