As the Senior Art Director for the Xi’an Virtuos team on Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, I led a team of 25 junior artists and two leads to bring the game’s levels to life with authenticity and attention to detail. My responsibilities included mentoring the team on how to realistically construct environments, and ensuring that the in-game world felt convincing and immersive. I conducted regular art reviews to maintain high standards and worked closely with the client through weekly meetings to align on vision and expectations. In addition to overseeing the production pipeline, I contributed concept art and new ideas that supported Activision’s creative direction, ensuring our work seamlessly integrated with the overall game design. This hands-on approach ensured timely delivery of high-quality assets that met all project requirements.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is the next evolution of the popular battle royale experience developed by Infinity Ward and Raven Software, expanding on the success of the original Warzone. Released in 2022, the game offers an even larger, more dynamic map called Al Mazrah, set in the fictional country of the United Republic of Adal. Warzone 2.0 enhances the core battle royale mechanics while introducing new features like swimming, underwater combat, and revamped vehicle gameplay.
One of the key innovations in Warzone 2.0 is the new Gulag system, where eliminated players must fight in 2v2 battles for a chance to redeploy. The game also introduces a redesigned circle mechanic, with multiple smaller circles converging into a final showdown. Additionally, Warzone 2.0 integrates deeply with Modern Warfare II, offering cross-progression, new weapon customization options through the Gunsmith 2.0 system, and enhanced graphics and sound design, all to create an immersive, intense combat experience.
With its mix of tactical warfare, fast-paced action, and constant updates, Warzone 2.0 continues to set the standard for the battle royale genre.
