My ultimate vision in life is to be a provider and an educator to those who need it the most. I’m as lost as the next person, but with my experiences I hope to guide someone in the correct direction that I could not see or achieve. Dr. Laski, one my mentors, has a quote on his website that stuck out to me when I first read it years ago, “I am not a teacher; only a fellow traveler of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead–ahead of myself as well as of you, by George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) and this has become one of my mantras that I wish to live by. I have been working with Dr. Laski since 2016 as his assistant and that is an accomplishment in itself because he almost never takes on assistants like this as mentioned by other professors. I’ve been working with his undergrad and grad MBA courses due to my noticed success after the completion of my own MBA in 2015. In 2020, I started working under another mentor, Professor David Weiss as a Doctoral Fellow at the institute for Dispute Resolution. I continued to learn from both Dr. Laski and Professor Weiss about their experiences and approaches to teaching. I hope to have the honor of having my own class soon as an adjunct professor. While working as an adjunct professor, I plan on finding new opportunities within the university or surrounding universities for possible career advancements. I’m a firm believer in being in the right place at the right time and being ready for anything. I have also started to work towards being certified to become a secondary education business teacher.
There are moments that I used to wish to return to the nexus of the music industry to utilize my newfound knowledge and skills that I have obtained from my work experiences, as well as, my vast educational experiences. However, as my academic and entrepreneurial career evolved over the last few years, I now see that I have found my true calling. In Summer 2018, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to intern at Fearless Records (Concord Music Group), which has been a record label that has influenced me for over 15 years, and that exposed me to new perspectives of management, marketing, and legality. Two of my biggest accomplishments from that internship was that I discovered that the label was not properly monetizing their digital content on YouTube which already made them lose out on roughly $700,000. I also got the chance to work on a legality case with one of my favorite artists which led to them being signed to the parent company concord Music. This album was released June 19th, 2020.
Recently, in 2020, the Institute for Dispute Resolution at New Jersey City University has provided me with experiences that I will never forget. These experiences ranged from having complete autonomous and creative control of projects while working alongside various intellectual academics, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders from every country in the world. I had the privilege of utilizing some of my old talents for video editing on an educational YouTube series called Connecting Bridges and Borders where we interviewed these same people. I was also appointed to various roles of leadership and mentorship due to my vast background in business and education technology. As I continue to grow with every experience, I learn more about who I truly am and where I belong in this vast academic world. As a viewer, I purposely made my Services/Leadership section have a strong dichotomic perspective to show my growth as a professional in such a short period of time by simply transferring employment to something that is not holding me back from succeeded.
My style of leadership is best described as Transformational Leadership (Northouse, 2016) if my first paragraph did not give off that impression right away. I always see the good in people and want them to take control of their passions and turn them into something that could help shape their future in the best way possible. The use of technology, such as music, I believe can be huge determining factor in a student’s growth. I wish to explore this and other technologies while in this program to shape a dissertation topic that will not only interest me, but the all of those who wish to read it. I do not have the experiences of teaching younger children or teens that my other Cohort 6 members have prior to this program, but I’m learning a lot from them and hope to see even more new perspectives of the education system.
Technology has always played a large part in my life ever since I was a child and without a doubt shaped me into the person I am today. Music and business, let alone education technology, were not my initial choices of career entering higher education. I was originally a chemistry major when I first started attending New Jersey City University but deviated quiet far from that after a few years. Prior to this program, I did not have an extensive background in education that my other cohort members had so the very concepts of education conferences were brand new to me and I wish I had the chance to attend more early on, but my employment at the time wasn't very kind to any level of University Students.. The next page contains a timeline of my most recent accomplishments and future goals that I wish to reach during their allotted time. This timeline will be updated regularly when new opportunities or accomplishments arise.
