Introduction
With over 2,000 students, it may seem impossible to make everyone feel like a part of Newton South High School, but the yearbook does just that by bringing people together in one book. By showcasing activities that range from Ping-Pong to Taylor Swift Club and academics from Marine Biology to Woodworking, the yearbook shows that it’s possible to bond with others despite our school’s massive size.
No More White Space!
"No More White Space" was pretty much our motto for this year because our goal was to cover as many people as we could. For sports team photos we show a photo of the team, their scores, and a caption listing players on the team. However, we wanted to go further with this, so we added extra modules and filled in the white space! We covered student-athletes and how they are spending their time doing other things other than just their sport.
As for the portrait pages, instead of just including students' photos and their names we wanted to add more. We attempted to interview students who don't get featured very often, or students who didn't get their portrait taken so they can still have a photo of them on the page.
This was a great way to tie back into our theme of how everyone is doing something different throughout the day.

Spreads that Showed Diversity
Nails/Accessories + Social Media: We showed diversity by going against the stereotypes. When looking at a spread of nails and accessories, it's common to associate it as more female-dominated, yet, that was not our goal. We wanted to cover boys and girls who want to share their jewelry or nails.
Clubs: In this spread, we incorporated a variety of clubs, one being Best Buddies. Best Buddies is our inclusive club of those with disabilities and those without. Giving them coverage on the page was very important to us editors because Best Buddies' mission is something we wanted to showcase in our book.
