Training at MGH
Massachusetts General Hospital was founded in 1811 and is the third oldest general hospital in the U.S. and the largest in New England. Mass General has the largest hospital-based research program in the U.S. and is not only the original teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, but also its largest with nearly all our staff physicians serving as faculty.

about training at MGH
Centers of expertise (COEs) in Global and Community Health, Medical Education, Health Policy and Management, and Quality and Patient Safety sponsored by the GME office enable trainees with these interests to network with like-minded trainees and faculty. Small grant awards to enable pilot projects are also available through the COEs.
Salary scale and benefits for the current fiscal year can be found here. Acknowledging that Boston is a high cost-of-living city, salaries are competitive and additional benefits including a lease guaranty program and subsidized transit pass help defray costs. Applicants are also encouraged to apply for the new federally-funded pediatric subspecialty loan repayment program for which MGH is an approved site.
MGBfC - a hospital within a hospital
MassGeneral Brigham for Children is a children's hospital within the Massachusetts General Hospital. Since its founding, MGH has been a general hospital, committed to caring for patients across the lifespan. MGH was the first provider of pediatric services in Boston and has been caring for children since 1821. MGBfC currently has over 300 physicians within 50 medical specialties and 15 surgical services, and we treat over 170,000 patients annually. We are the pediatric referral center for the MassGeneral Brigham and a teaching service for Harvard Medical School.
Training programs at MGBfC include a Pediatrics Residency Program, a Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program, and 4 pediatric fellowships: Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, and Critical Care. Additional pediatric trainees care for our patients through residencies in child and adolescent pyschiatry and child neurology, the Harvard combined neonatalogy fellowship, the Harvard genetics training program, and fellowships in pediatric radiology, pediatric anesthesia, pediatric orthopedics, and pediatric epilepsy.
We at MGBfC pride ourselves on our collegiality, close-knit community, and tailored, individualized care for our patients. We join with the residency program and other fellowship programs for wellness activities, advocacy, and advancement of medical education. As part of the larger MGH, we are dedicated to providing a medical home for entire families, coordinating care and working with our colleagues to provide seamless and superb care starting from the neonatal period.
International trainees
As a world-class institution, MGH strives to recruit trainees from all over the globe. The Office for Global Professionals and Scholars offers assistance with visa applications and transition to living in Boston for international applicants and trainees.
Well-being
Medicine is a challenging field, and we recognize that training can be a particularly stressful time. MGH has a number of resources to support the well-being and mental health of learners including 24/7 access to the Trainee Assistance Program for urgent needs. Read more about available resources here.
Our Division has a well-being committee which we encourage trainees to join. Activities include picnics, kickball games, and the MGfC pediatric endocrinology Little Free Library. Quarterly retreats across the MGfC fellowship programs are an opportunity to connect with colleagues and widen social networks. And, like all pediatricians, we love dressing up for Halloween!
