MINISTER OF THE COUNCIL

The 28 Ministers of the Council of the European Union represent their national government. Depending on the topic at hand, different Ministers meet for different topics. In MEU Vienna, the Council of the EU discusses and makes amendments on legislation equal to the European Parliament. As there has to be a consensus between the EP and the Council, as a Minister you should take the position of the Parliament into account when negotiating. Cooperation between the two bodies is supported by the so-called Trialogue meetings, consisting of members of both chambers plus a Commissioner. In the Council of the EU, a qualified majority is needed, so the Ministers need to seek for alliances according to their national interests.
