For this project I have to find two different cyber attacks on a company and evaluate the attack and source.
In this article, it shares that 46% of retail companies affected by ransomware attacks are by an unknown security gap in their system. It also shares that 58% of companies pay the ransom. A ransomware attack is when a cyber hack encrypts the victims files, causing it to be inaccessible until the victim pays the ransom. Retailers are the second most affected by these types of attacks. I think the best way to protect ourselves from these sorts of things is to research them and learn how to do it, that way you can do the things you know will make it a challenge.
This article talks about how two suspects have been arrested while one is still on the run. On November 28th, the suspect on the run purchased a 2022 Cadillac XT6 using an ID he’d stolen. On December 1st, BCSO responded to a dealership because a man attempted to purchase a car with a misspelled word on their ID: Expiration. That’s why I misspelled fraudulent. I thought it was a funny thing to catch someone’s eye or have you go back and see it’s misspelled. The suspect trying to make said purchase with a misspelled stolen ID drove the purchased Cadillac to said dealership, so when the cops arrived, they noticed.
This is the same make and model of car that was identified at the dealership.
After the first article, I learned just how many ransomware attacks happen and how common it is. In the second article, I learned how simple it is to get a master key to a mail box and steal someone’s packages or personal information.
