Keep the Design Simple
You want to give your kids everything they could possibly need. It makes sense. But when it comes to their bedroom, the simpler, the better.
Think of the room as a blank canvas that will grow and evolve as your little ones turn into big ones. While features like cubbies, small doors, or intricate floor designs might seem fun to a toddler, they’re less so for an adolescent or teen.
So remember, keep the blueprints simple. Let everything else do the talking.
Don’t Forget the Storage
That said, extra storage solutions should be at the top of your priority list. From their days as an infant in the crib through their teen years, there will always be a need for extra storage space.

Build for the Future
It’s easy to build a bedroom designed specifically for a younger child, but the best bedrooms have the versatility to grow with your kid.
When you’re designing the spot for the bed, consider that it will go from crib to queen in the blink of an eye. There should be room for expanding furniture and more possessions.
This also applies to things like outlets. A two-year-old doesn’t have much need for electricity, but as they start growing, things like tablet chargers, television sets, reading lights, and even a computer become necessary. Prepare for that eventuality with plenty of well-placed outlets.
Make Sure They’re Calm and Comfortable
There are so many different ways to accomplish this goal. Some happen during construction, others during decoration.
When designing and building the room, use high-quality batt insulation that keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Also, make sure their windows bring in plenty of lighting and choose carpet that you’ll both love.
As for the choices you make during the decorating and furnishing phase, don’t be afraid to combine fun and practicality for a space that your child will love. This means pillows that are fluffy and comfortable paired with cases that are fun colors and patterns. Paint a mural. Add a small chandelier or unique lamps. The possibilities are endless.
