1991年12月9日《联合报》对《聪明糊涂心》的报道。那时，陈淑桦作品的销售达到50白金（二百五十万张）。陈淑桦说她很感激制作人沈光远对她的包容，伴她走过病重黑暗的时间。

1991年12月出的《聪明糊涂心》来之不易，是陈淑桦在一年前误食掺了毒素的减肥药后，在病痛中以血汗换来的。她已经病了好几个月，专辑发出前不久，1991年11月9日金钟奖时，她还没有完全康复，在颁奖揭晓前提前离开，没有坚持到获奖的时刻。

这张专辑发出时已经拖延了，宣传工作稀少。在新马地区报道极少，和以前陈淑桦在百代期的作品完全不同，也远远赶不上《跟你说 听你说》的宣传。专辑发出期间，陈淑桦做了一些访谈，但主要报道的是她的健康问题。虽然陈淑桦不愿公开，但作为公众人物，她觉得有义务告诫大家这些药品的危害。又受了职业篮球魔术师Johnson公开健康问题的鼓舞。她公开这段经历是冒了很大的险：三十多年来网上还将她视为病人，好像人病过一次就好不了了。无论如何，如果她的勇敢曾换来一条生命，她的忠告有人听进，这个代价也就值得了。

《聪明糊涂心》就这么记载了陈淑桦心态的转变。虽然她唱了不少伤情的歌，但在这张专辑之前，陈淑桦的作品总带着一分激情，悲伤里渗透着希望，想象，恼怒，甚至喜悦。《聪明糊涂心》是陈淑桦的音乐转向哲学化的开端， 是她在痛苦中寻求对命运的认可。陈淑桦在很年轻时，二十来岁的作品中就藏着一颗老道的心；现在她更是沉静下来。《这样爱你对不对》把音调定得那么低，她歌声中的火花就跟着熄灭了。

虽然专辑没有过去那种灵性，陈淑桦用她细微的深情弥补了它在激情上的不足。专辑销量达到六白金，是当时市场上抢手的一张。不可忽视的是她在歌中注入的温暖。那份爱，就像她唱的歌一样，是跳跃的光和滴滴的流水。她也许是接受了命运，但她对音乐的爱是永恒。

三十四年后，陈淑桦的音乐还在拨动我们的心。时间的流逝只衬托出歌迷对她的思念，哪怕是像我这样的新歌迷。

Be Wise, Be Easy was an album forged with Sarah Chen's very blood and sweat as she fought for her life after a terrible weight-loss episode. She had been ill for several months. Just one month before the release of the album, on November 9, 1991, Chen had been too sick to receive her Best Female Singer award at the Golden Melody ceremony, leaving before the results were announced.

The album, already behind schedule, was released without much fanfare. The sparse reports about it in Singapore and Malaysia contrasted sharply with the promotion of Chen's earlier work with EMI, or her top-seller Talk to You, Listen to You. Chen took some interviews around the time, however, primarily to address her health issues. As much as she preferred to keep her health matters private, Chen felt obliged to warn the public about the harmful effects of the tampered weight-loss drug. Magic Johnson's recent disclosure about his own health issues had encouraged her to come forward, even as she knew that there could be blowback. She took the risk, at a huge detriment to herself, as she was subjected to decades of distortion over her well-being. If her bravery had saved just one life, her warnings heard by just a few people, that sacrifice would have been worth it.

The change in her circumstances seeped through the songs. Although Chen was known for singing sad songs, her work before this album always felt energetic, where sadness was tinted with hope, wish, anger, and even delight. Be Wise, Be Easy was Chen's turn toward the philosophical: a sense of resignation and acceptance as life dealt her a blow. Already carrying an old soul since her early twenties, Chen was now decidedly mellow. The unusually low key set for Is It Right to Love You took out any remaining sparks.

But for what the album was lacking, Chen overcompensated with a subtlety of love so characteristic of her. The album was a top seller on the market, selling over 300,000 copies despite little promotion. One could not miss the warmth Chen infused into the songs. Her love, much like the songs she sang, was the hopping light and dripping water. She may have resigned, but she still loved the game.

Her music touched a chord in our hearts, even 34 years later. Time has only revealed how much we have missed her, even for someone who should have been exempt from that longing, having only stumbled upon her work recently.
