Puranadara Daasa Araadhane

The first programme of the year, the Purandara Daasa Aradhane, was held on the 27th Feb 2004 at the Indian Community School, Salmiya. The Koota members enthralled the audience with Bhajans sung by women, men and children of over years of age. Seventy members including children sung over 45 Bhajans. The special Manatapa onstage was decorated with the picture of Purandara Daasa. The programme which started with a light breakfast was decorated with Bhajans and spiritual touch with Magalarati and ended with a sumptuous traditional lunch.

Outdoor Picnic

The second regular programme of the Koota was the outdoor picnic held on the 26th March, 2004 at the Fintas Garden. The enthusiastic Sports Committee arranged for several games and events. Apart from having fun & frolic the games also tested the fitness levels of all the members. The parents ensured that their children participated in the various sports events and cheered them all the way. The games sessions were followed up with Lunch and finally a Bingo session was arranged so that the members could relax before they called off the day. Emirates Tour. The EC conducted an Emirates tour for the members (29th April to 1st May 2004) covering Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah of the UAE. Using their good office and contacts the EC could manage highly reasonable air fares and about 20 members participated with zeal and enthusiasm.

Indoor Games Competition

Indoor Games competitions were conducted on the16th, 23rd & 30th April at the Salmiya Play School. The Sports committee conducted the following games for men, women and children separately.

a) Chess;

b) Carom and

c) Scrabble.

All the games were keenly contested and members participated with great deal of enthusiasm and zeal. There was good attendance and participation on all the days.

Rajyotsava Celebration

The most important annual event of the Koota, the Rajyotsava celebration was held on the 12th November 2004 at the Shaab Garden Hall. The program started at 5.30 p.m. with the Cultural committee ensuring that the evening at Shaab Garden Hall was an event to remember, filled with a family-socio-cultural theme-based entertainment program. It enlightened the audience about the culture, customs and traditions of our State.The Cultural program was performed exclusively by the Koota children. A total of 83 children participated in the program which was a fruitful outcome of never-tiring practice sessions for almost 2 ½ months to deliver the confident and flawless program. Seeing all the children perform on stage was a joy. The function ended with the much-awaited Raffle Draw followed by Dinner.

Cricket Tournament

The cricket tournament, sponsored by the Sri Lankan Airlines, was a part of the KKK’s 20th Anniversary. It was held between 14th to 26th November and 3rd to 24th December at Sulaibikat & Jleeb Al Shuwaikh. To commemorate the 20th anniversary since the formation of KKK, the EC 2004 conducted a 2-overs limited cricket tournament spread over 6 days. The tournament was named as “Sri Lankan Airlines - KKK 20th Anniversary Cricket Tournament”. This tournament was initiated as a rolling trophy tournament to be conducted every year by KKK. The tournament in 2004 was an open invitational tournament with 8 teams participating in it. KKK cricket team was one of the fancied team. The tournament was kicked off on 14th November and ended on 24th December with the finals. The winner of the inaugural tournament was Duraar Sports Club.

Indoor Picnic / Talents Day

The indoor picnic/talents day was held on the 10th December at the Senior Indian School Auditorium, Salmiya. Several events were conducted on that date based on age group of the children. Some of them Committees Visit to UAE Cricket Team Committees Visit to UAE Cricket Team were:

• Colouring competition for the age group 5-7 years.

• Subject drawing based on theme for the age group 7-10 years.

• Essay writing competition for the age group 10-14 years.

• Making objects of their imagination out of given material for the age group of 14 years and above

• Quiz Competition for children for the age group of 10 years and above. Children were segregated into 4 groups based on the House they represent.

• Quiz competition for Adults: Just like the children the adults too were segregated into 4 groups based on their House.

• A game of Bingo for all ages.

• Fancy dress for tiny tots: Age group 1-5 years.

• Talents search for all children: Singing / Instrumental / Mono-acting / Mimicry / Jokes etc.

• Short Skit for adults’ duration not exceeding 10 mins. The program was very well attended and children came out in huge numbers to participate and enjoyed the day indoors.

Annual General Meeting

The last programme of the Koota, the Annual General Meeting, was held on the 7th January, 2005 at the Senior Indian School Auditorium, Salmiya. After one full year of managing the KKK activities, it was time for the EC 2004 to hand over the baton to EC 2005. A Fashion Parade for the KKK children, Koota Ladies, Men and Couples was conducted on that day. There were prizes for the kids, Ladies, Men and the Couples Fashion Parade. The program started at 4.30 p.m. with invocation, Christmas Carol, Prize distribution for children who participated in Rajyotsava function, Skit by Koota members, prize distribution for program directors, sub-committee members, house captains. After this, the Fashion Show was held. Prize distribution for Indoor games/ Outdoor games/Essay writing com-petition/couple game/couple fashion parade etc. followed the fashion show. The Treasurer’s Report for the year Bhajan Group 2004 was released and finally the election to appoint the EC for 2005 was held. The final event was an address by the outgoing President thanking everyone followed by an address by the incoming president.
