General Body Meeting and selection of EC:

A General Body Meeting was held and the EC for the year was selected. Segregating members according to House: All the members of the Koota were segregated into 4 houses named based on rivers of Karnataka viz. Hemavathi, Sharavathi, Kaveri and Netravathi. The winners of the various competitions held during the year are awarded points and these points in turn add up to the House points. The House with the most number of points is awarded a rolling shield in the ensuing AGM.

Dasa Jayanthi:

During Dasa Jayanthi, the first cultural program of the year, Bhajans and Devotional songs were sung by all the members of the Koota. All the members be it adults or children participated actively in either Solo singing or group bhajans.

Outdoor Picnic:

Outdoor picnics were organized during the early summer months and one in winter in one of the gardens of Kuwait. Annual Inter House Cricket Match and External Cricket Match with Kuwait Tamil Sangham The annual Inter House Cricket match was conducted amongst the 4 houses of the Koota. Further, the Koota also held a cricket match with Kuwait Tamil Sangham.

Indoor Games:

Indoor games such as Chess, Scrabble was conducted for all the members and children before the Rajyothsava function.

Kannada Rajyothsava:

The Kannada Rajyothsava function was a special one for the year 1989 as it also marked the Birth Centenary of our first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The Chief Guest of the function was the then Ambassador of India to Kuwait, Mr. Budhiraj. Cultural items consisting of songs and dances were presented by the members of the Koota mostly by ladies. All the children of the Koota nearing 70 children participated in the cultural events. Whole stage was set up with curtains and sidings the previous night only by Managing committee/other committee members. Two days before the main function, a rehearsal of the entire program was conducted, each program was timed and edited to the minute detail. For practice of cultural items, the Koota children had to be taken in groups on Thursdays & Fridays between Ahmadi//Fahaheel/Abbasiya/ Salmiya/Mangaf and vice versa. Some of the members did this great job. Networking this whole arrangement was manually done and was fail proof. Program on the final function day finished nearest to a minute. It was so well managed.

Farewell to year 1989:

The year 1989 was a different one as the Indian Embassy in Kuwait celebrated “India Day”. KKK, as the forefront organization representing Karnataka in Kuwait was invited to highlight the culture and richness of Karnataka. Other organisations were also invited to represent their respective states.

KKK proved its mettle in organizing various cultural programs and delicious food of Karnataka.

A Parade was carried out for each of the different states of India and Karnataka was proudly represented by KKK and its members. Members of the Koota actively participated in large numbers. Drama titled “Andu Indu Mundu” directed by Mrs. Tara Prasad was well received by the audience.

Food stalls were opened during this function and around 650 “Mysorepaks” were prepared and sold along with the Mangalorean speciality “Kori Rotti”. Both these dishes proved to favourite of the crowd that had both Indians and Arab guests. This made it even more special.
