The final sample set in the Freedom Morton Series shows off the great Robert Morton Stings ensemble sound, as well as providing the other tonal colors of the flue and reed ranks. The samples are in 16-bit 48khz Mono (panned to Stereo positions in the sample set), and the set uses recorded tremulant samples.
These samples were recorded just outside the swell shades, so the organ is semi-dry and will benefit from added reverb. For those who like the small organ studio feel, the samples are probably just right as they are.
Donation and Order Forms:
This project, although free for personal and non-commercial use, will be donationware based and released by Melotone Sound Productions. Your donations to the project will help us to continue to develop new sample sets and improve the equipment and techniques used in their creation.
Projects like the Freedom Morton Series are time intensive and are released on the understanding that users will donate towards the time spent on creating them. A donation of US$99.00 or more would be appreciated for a sample set of this size. Please go to the PayPal Donations page if you are able to make a donation. With the Freedom Morton 3/17 sample set fully loaded, the Hauptwerk executable will be using approximately 2.0 Gigs of RAM. This sample set will load in Hauptwerk Free Edition with medium RAM resources, but Hauptwerk Basic Edition is the minimum recommended HW Edition as you will then be able to use 1000 notes of polyphony rather than the 256 polyphony limitation that comes with the Free Edition.
See the Freedom Morton 3/17 Specification page for full Stop List of the sample set.
Far from the Home I Love Les Deutsch gives us "Far From the Home I Love", which is a seldom-played song from "Fiddler on the Roof", by Jerry Bock. His arrangement shows off the solo voices in the organ. The second bridge features a string ensemble followed by a tibia chorus.
Irving Berlin's "What'll I do" Les Deutsch's arrangement of Irving Berlin's "What'll I Do", written in 1923. It is a slow and sad waltz - nothing fancy but very pretty. The song was used as a generalized theme in Nelson Riddle's Academy award-winning period score for the 1974 film The Great Gatsby starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.
You Make Me Feel So Young Misha Stefanuk playing "You Make Me Feel So Young" in Ashley Miller style. A popular song from 1946, composed by Josef Myrow, with lyrics written by Mack Gordon. A bright introduction with the English Horn, then onto the Piano with the ensemble and solo registrations giving extra color. Another crowd pleaser!

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas A jazz rendition of the Christmas classic - 'Have yourself a merry little Christmas' - a song introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 MGM musical "Meet Me in St. Louis". This is from a MIDI recording, played back on the Freedom Morton 3/17 - Piano with Theatre Organ accompaniment.

Poor Butterfly The original music was written by Raymond Hubbell, the lyrics by John Golden. The song was published in 1916 and was introduced in the Broadway show The Big Show, which opened in August of that year. This arrangement and live performance by Les Deutsch - giving us a great demo with some typical 1920s "faux Japanese" effects and the almost-never-heard verse. Some great solo work and that lush string chorus.
Jealousy - Jalousie Misha Stefanuk's arrangement of Jealousy - Jalousie. "Tango tsigane" ("Jealousy," or originally, Tango jalousie), is by far the most famous piece of music ever to come out of Denmark. It was written by Jacob Gade who was a violinist, composer, and leader of a 24-piece orchestra that played at the Palads Teatret (Palace Theater), an ornate silent movie theater located in Copenhagen. It is a well known Theatre Organ piece played by theatre organists all around the world.
The Village Blacksmith Owns the Village Now This arrangement and live performance by Les Deutsch, the tune is an obscure novelty tune from 1926 called "The Village Blacksmith Owns the Village Now" by the equally obscure songwriting team of Leslie Moore and Johnny Tucker. Originally a complaint about the high coast of gasoline - in the 1920s! In the lyrics, the village blacksmith changes with the times and converts his smithy into the towns service station, charging "two bits a pint" for "gasoline and water" which comes out to $2 American. There are some interesting sounds and textures in the demo. Each time the tune reaches back to the first part of Verdi's "Anvil Chorus" Les uses the organ's straight (non-trem) sounds. It makes a convincing romantic concert organ - as most good theater organs should. When the chorus from "Anvil Chorus" comes each time, Les makes liberal use of the traps and accent the offbeats with the Fire Bell, which makes a nice anvil. The second time through the chorus features the piano - both in octaves and "society style" at 16' and 4'.
Nola Misha Stefanuk's arrangement of 'Nola'. This tune is a novelty ragtime piano composition by Felix Arndt (1915) that transcribes wonderfully to Theatre Organ! It has that lovely 'ragtime' foot tapping feel and shows off some great past paced playing on the Freedom Morton 3/17.
Handfull of Keys This arrangement and live performance by Les Deutsch. This tune is a jazzy number - by Thomas "Fats" Waller. Although Waller recorded both on organ and piano, he is best known for his piano recordings and his compositions, which were, in turn, played by everyone. This tune showcases the piano and the xylophone, and a slightly beefed up English Horn (voiced +2dB) for extra punch! Jazzy and fun!
This organ is a little more 'Dry' in reverb than the previous Freedom Morton organs, and so benefits from added reverb.
There is no Piano Sustain pedal. This requires extensive XML programming and so is on my 'To do' list for a later update.
The G.Cel switch turns the Gamba Celeste links to the Gamba II stops On or Off. So you can play the Solo Gamba as a single rank (G.Cel Off) or as a combined Gamba and Gamba Celeste (G.Cel On).
The Pedal Traps are all on 2nd Touch. To play then on your 'normal' pedal manual use the 'Traps from 2T' coupler.
A Sostenuto switch for the Great is on the 'To do' list, as is an Sforzando.
There are a number of ways to use the 2nd Touch manuals.
The first is with a true 2nd Touch console that has a separate set of MIDI contacts for the 2T action. This is then configured in the advanced organ settings from the HW menu system.
The second is to use a Velocity sensitive MIDI keyboard and use the HW Auto MIDI configuration to sense that velocity, which should automatically set that manual to send messages above 'velocity nnn' to the 2nd touch (the value of the velocity amount can be manually configured). Then when you play on that keyboard, and hit the notes firmly, the 2nd Touch Stops will play.
And then finally, if you don't have a true 2nd Touch console, and you don't have velocity on your MIDI keyboard, there are the Melody Couplers (MEL) which will couple the 2nd Touch Stops onto their associated manual playing only the top most note (Melody).
