Carmen
Stephen Ades brings us a medley from Carmen, the opera by Georges Bizet . The medley is from the first half of the opera and comprises of:
- Tragic Theme
- Habanera
- Letter Song
- Seguedille
- Toreador Song
Carmen simply wells up with wonderful melodies and harmonies. Stephen has spent a fair amount of time in orchestral pits as a timpanist, and Carmen is, in his opinion, one of those operas that you can play night after night and never tire of. Stephen chose the Redford Barton VTPO for Carmen because it has a sweetness that represents Bizet's sensuous orchestrations very well.

Stephen Ades plays this wonderful swinging piece. Davies was the songwriter and lead singer for the Kinks, a London-based 1960s band. Davies' lyrics and music wittily reflected English culture and lifestyle, and the Kinks were one of the most influential groups of the sixties.
