My objective for this project was to asses how social media impacts me as an individual and society overall. Also, in this project, I had to take a social media addiction quiz to identify how addicted I was to social media, and find a statistic that related to my social media use.
You might not be 100% addicted (yet!), but you definitely need to evaluate how much time you're spending scrolling on your social media accounts. It may not be making you happy. One study by Facebook of teen Instagram users in the US and UK found more than 40% of those who reported feeling “unattractive” said the feelings started when using Instagram. It's a good time to start thinking about decluttering your digital life through a social media and digital detox!
After taking the social media addiction survey , I realized that I am highly addictive to social media, which is a huge issue. I actually used to be less active on social media, but a few months ago, I made new social media accounts for Tik Tok, Instagram, and Facebook, and my activity and addiction has drastically increased.
Social media has impacted me greatly as I've become more distracted and unfocused, especially in school. I also find myself to have a shorter attention span. Emotionally, I find myself to be anxious and crankier. Thus, I agree that I need a social and digital detox.
I chose this statistic because I found it interesting how the data of age usage of social media apps matched with my own. As someone in the 18-29 age group, I definitely use Youtube the most and Twitter the least.

Overall, I believe that social media can be such a positive experience for many. For instance, social media has allowed many people stay updated with important and relevant news, events, and information as many of us do not with the televised news as much. Personally, social media has exposed me to knowledgeable content, such as food recipes, workout routines, and gardening tips, that have been pretty useful in my daily life. Furthermore, social media has allowed many of us to keep in touch with old friends and family that live far away from us.
However we cannot ignore the negative impact social media can have on us as well. For instance, social media can get pretty addictive, distract us from our daily lives, decrease face-to-face communication, and overall can negatively affect our mental health.
Overall, society-wise, I believe that social media pros outweigh the cons when used properly.
In this lesson, I learned that I am highly addictive to social media. Although social media can be very positive, my excessive usage of social media has begun to create a more negative and unhealthy experience for me. So, that is why it is important to have a balance in social media usage order to maintain an overall positive social media experience.
