Below is an example of some of the literacy education work I have completed. In the below documents there is a text set unit plan with numerous literacy activities including vocabulary charts, kwl charts, think pair share, and other writing activities. There are also some examples of Literacy activities I have had my class complete during the duration of my student teaching.

Below are some examples of student work for 7th-grade sectionalism and compromise reading/writing activities that were completed while I taught 7th-grade social studies.
The above file contains the workbook readings and activities students completed on Sectionalism and Compromises surrounding the issue of Slavery. After students read and learned about sectionalism (see reading and venn diagram as well as notes) Students filled in a graphic organizer to decipher economic, political and cultural differences between the North and the South. Before reading about different compromises such as the Missouri Compromise and the compromise of 1850, students were asked to choose between 3 possible solutions to end the argument over slavery in the United states. After completing this quick write students then read about what solutions the United States tried in order to reach a compromise.
This map is an example of student work from a sectionalism lesson I taught. After students read, learned about, and filled in a graphic organizer on sectionalism they were to complete this map activity. The idea behind the activity was for students to read the first page and recap the lesson as well as give them an opportunity to label a map of where the country was divided. Students were supposed to add elements (small drawings) of things that resemble that section of the United States at the time.
Below is literacy homework that I have implemented in both my 7th and 9th grade classes. This specific example is from 9th grade global. I believe students need to practice their literacy skills in order to master them so having homework that encourages reading of many different types of texts as well as using writing skills can be beneficial.
Here are some examples of document-based questions that students complete on a weekly basis for homework. These examples are specific to 9th grade global and are great practice for reading primary and secondary sources as well as preparing students for similar questions on regents exams.
