A stereotype is an over-generalized belief about a particular category of people. It is an expectation that people might have about every person of a particular group. The type of expectation can vary; it can be, for example, an expectation about the group's personality, preferences, or ability. Stereotyping is discriminating or singling out someone because they don't fit a general idea on how they are supposed to act. But the truth is, there is no actual specific way that a man or woman or child or person of race should be expected to act. Everyone is unique, and everyone has their own qualities that make them different from everyone else.

Gender Stereotyping

One of the most common types of stereotyping is gendered. This is when people apply certain ideas to certain genders, stating that everyone in that gender has to act that certain way. One of the most common examples would be "men do all the hard work, while women stay at home and take care of kids." Another one would be "Women can't be doctors or scientists, only men can." Many people have been held back by stereotypes, which can act as a hard wall or obstacle to break through when trying to achieve your dreams. However, with enough dedication and perseverance, anyone can be whoever they want to be. In today's world, many women are doctors and scientists that help people everyday.
