My name is Dr. Solange Charles-Montanez, but you can call me “Dr. Solange”. I have 2 kids - A’khenaton, who is 17 years old and Kimone, who is 5 years old. I believe that my kids are not only my motivation, but my prime example that I can achieve any goal once I set my mind to it. I say this because I had my son during my 2nd year of undergraduate college, in a foreign country, with no family close by and I was still able to graduate on time. Also, during my doctoral program, I became pregnant with my daughter and was put on 20 weeks of bed rest, followed by labor during Hurricane Irma. Nevertheless, despite a full work and school schedule, I was able to complete the program on schedule.

On a side note, during my down time I enjoy bargain and thrift shopping, I think it’s because I love the thrill of the chase, as well as bringing things back to their former glory. I absolutely love “shoes”. In fact, it is slightly embarrassing to admit that I have more 160 pairs and my husband has now banned me from purchasing any new shoes, so now I purchase them in secret. I love the water, hence my move to South Florida to be closer to the beach. Lastly, one of my new favorite past times is sleeping. I guess you can say that I am catching up on 4 years of lost sleep from pursuing a doctorate and having a newborn.
