Attendance
Miami-Dade requires that faculty take attendance at the beginning of every class period. If you are late, it is your responsibility to ensure I know you were present. Do not interrupt a lecture to let me know you are present. If you have one absence, you may be dropped from the course.
Temporarily classes will be a mix of the Face2Face and Online Modality. As such, students in the Online Modality are required to create a Presence Thread on the Blackboard Attendance Log during the specified class time period. While students in the Face2Face Modality will be required to sign the physical roster provided by the lecturer during class.
If you are dropped from the class, either by me or by the College for non-payment, you will not be allowed to attend class. You will not receive a grade, nor will I accept assignments, papers, or exams from you.
Class attendance will not count towards your grade. Students are expected to arrive on time and remain in class until the completion of the class period. You are responsible for information provided in class, even if you are not in attendance.
Lateness
The class duration is 50 minutes, therefore if you are more than 20 minutes late you will be considered absent from the class. Please remember if you have one absence (unexcused), you may be dropped from the course.
Class Participation
Success in this course requires active class participation and familiarity with the textbook. Given the 8-week restricted timeframe, I will not cover all material in the text. Therefore, you are responsible for all reading materials assigned, as well as all extraneous materials I will cover in class. You are responsible for reading all assigned chapters BEFORE the class period.
Assignments (Late/Missed/Makeup)
This is an 8–week course, therefore, late or missed assignments will not be accepted. No exceptions. You are responsible for submitting work by the due date/time. Assignments must be turned in by 11:59pm of the due date. You are more than welcomed to submit work early (but not late). If you should miss class, it is your responsibility to complete the work and follow up on what you have missed in class by contacting a classmate. The instructor is not responsible for reminding students about missing work and learning what they have missed in class.
Academic Dishonesty
All students are expected to meet the College’s academic conduct standards. Acts of academic misconduct, including cheating, plagiarism, misrepresentation, and facilitating academic dishonesty will be referred to the Academic Dean. Students who break the College’s academic conduct standards will be charged with misconduct charges. For more information on these standards, refer to the Students Rights and Responsibilities Handbook at:
http://www.mdc.edu/policy/student_rights_and_responsibilities.pdf
Classroom Etiquette & Behavior
Students are expected to abide by the college’s Code of Conduct as described in the Handbook of Student Rights and Responsibilities: http://www.mdc.edu/policy/student_rights_and_responsibilities.pdf.
In order to maintain an appropriate learning environment, only individuals who are officially registered and on a paid status will be allowed in the classroom. During class, students must turn off cell phones, both in the Face2Face and Online Modality. If you want to listen to music, surf the web, or text, then do so outside of the classroom. If you disrupt the teaching/learning process or act in a disrespectful, threatening, or intimidating way toward the lecturer or other students, you will be asked to leave the class. During the lecture, students in the Online Modality are required to turn on their cameras.
Course Drop
If you are dropped from this class by the instructor or for non-payment of student tuitions and fees, you will no longer be allowed to attend the class. I will not accept your assignments, papers, or tests; and you will not receive a grade for the course
