MCM/ICM Judging in three rounds:
Triage Judging-initial screening round to sort papers into batches. Each paper gets at least 2 reads.
Triage sites-groups of people in same institution/company/region that score papers together
Individual triage judges-people sign up to judge independently
Screening Round-to review those papers that do not have a clear determination
Final Judging-a diverse group of experienced judges from the discipline and mathematics to find papers worthy of Outstanding and Finalist
Guidance on the judging criterion is given after the contest ends. You will have an opportunity to hear from the head judge of your selected problem prior to the start of triage to discuss the problem, expectations, and possibly review some sample papers. There is a team to help you.
The judges will evaluate the quality of writing in the Solution Paper:
· Conciseness and organization are extremely important.
· Key statements should present major ideas and results.
· Present a clarification or restatement of the problem, as appropriate.
· Present a clear exposition of all variables, assumptions, and hypotheses.
· Present an analysis of the problem, including the motivation or justification for the model that is used.
· Include a design of the model.
· Discuss how the model could be tested, including error analysis and stability (conditioning, sensitivity, etc.).
· Discuss any apparent strengths or weaknesses in your model or approach.
