I would like to invite you to join the triage grading team for the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) sponsored by COMAP (Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications). These contests ask groups of 3 undergraduates or high school students to work on an open-ended problem over 4 days and write up their solution in a paper of no more than 25 pages. There are 6 problems to choose from-3 traditionally mathematics problems (MCM); continuous, discrete, and data insights and 3 applied to other fields (ICM); Network Science, Environmental Science, and Policy.
The contest grows every year and the 2025 contest had over 27,000 submissions. So, I am asking you to be part of the effort to triage the more than 27,000 papers that are expected this year. This effort will be done by a combination of individuals and groups (called triage sites). We do this to give over 80,000 students a complex modeling experience.
Benefits to triage judging:
COMAP pays $10/paper
Be involved with helping over 80,000 students become more engaged in complex problem solving.
Service to the mathematical and/or scientific communities.
Learn about new modeling techniques, applications to applied problems, and/or the scientific underpinnings to interesting problems just by reading the student solutions.
Register as a Triage Judge
If you are committed to being part of the judging team, then go to https://www.portal.comap.com to register.
**Advisors for student ICM teams**
Triage judges CANNOT be the advisor for a team on the problem they are grading. It is fine to triage for other problems. The integrity of this contest is very important to maintain. We do not want any situation that may look like a team may get an unfair advantage.
