McKesson Corporation belongs to the Standardized Technology Architecture stage of EA maturity. This phase is characterized by IT efficiency in terms of the standardization of technologies and processes which leads to cost-saving and performance improvement (Tuv, 2019). The transformation processes adopted by McKesson such as cloud computing, shared services initiatives, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are instances of that focus on standardization and efficiency. Concentration on centralized infrastructure, shared platforms, and apps, supports an easier integration of data throughout the organization, and therefore presents McKesson’s dedication to centralization and the boost of IT resources. On the other hand, though IT has made considerable progress toward standardization, full business strategy alignment for McKesson is still yet to be achieved– consequently, there is still space for business-IT alignment. Though these challenges remain, McKesson has set the stage for effective IT operations showing preparedness for moving to Core Business Optimization stage. In order to go into the next stage, the Core Business Optimization stage of maturity, McKesson must stress the three key enablers, that is, business-IT alignment, agility and innovation as well as data-driven decision-making. Through adopting a few recommendations, McKesson can transform from a normalized technology setting into one that creates business worth and innovation, setting it for future sustenance in the dynamic health care sphere.
