French exemptions

Research shows that French as a Second Language is incredibly beneficial to the academic and social-emotional learning of students with Special Education Needs.

Therefore, in alignment with other research based on Universal Design for Learning, Differentiated Instruction and Inclusion, the Ministry of Education and the TDSB expect that all students will take the compulsory French course in grade 9.

In order for a secondary school to consider an exemption for grade 9 French, it is the responsibility of the elementary feeder school to provide enough evidence to prove that FSL is NOT in the best interest of the student.
